How to convert from ammonia or urea g/L to nitrogen mg/L

Modified on Wed, 1 Sep, 2021 at 12:36 PM

The ammonia result can be converted to nitrogen content by this calculation:

Ammonia (g/L) x (molecular weight of nitrogen in ammonia / molecular weight of ammonia) x 1000 = mg Nitrogen/L

Example:     Ammonia (g/L) x (14.0067 / 17.031) x 1000 = mg Nitrogen/L

For urea the calculation is as follows:

Urea (g/L) x (molecular weight of nitrogen in urea / molecular weight of urea) x 1000 = mg Nitrogen/L

Example:     Urea (g/L) x (28.01/ 60.06) x 1000 = mg Nitrogen/L
