K-LACGAR can quantify both lactose and galactose individually once the analytes are within the linear range of the assay. This is performed as two individual assays as outlined on page 5 of the booklet with the calculations for both outlined on page 6. If the sample is low in lactose a borohydride reduction step is required to remove high levels of monosaccharides.

Lactose/Galactose (Rapid) (K-LACGAR) Assay Protocol

K-LOLAC is best suited for samples considered low in lactose or lactose free. This measures glucose initially (remainder of glucose following GOX/CAT treatment) and then the glucose released from the breakdown of lactose. This assay includes a treatment with glucose oxidase/catalase to remove free glucose prior to lactose analysis to avoid any interference to the lactose determination.

Lactose (K-LOLAC) Assay Protocol

Choice of kit will depend on sample type (e.g. lactose levels) and there is a preference for the detection of lactose via glucose or galactose.
