The expiry date / shelf life for the Megazyme test kit has passed can the kit still be used?

After the expiry date or shelf life Megazyme is not able to guarantee the performance of the test kit.

The best option is to replace the kit. Otherwise the recommendation is to test the standard control sample that is supplied with the kit - if the expected value is obtained you can assume that the kit reagents are working to specification.
