Is it possible to use K-TSTA with algae type samples?

Modified on Wed, 28 Jul, 2021 at 2:45 PM

It is possible to test algae using K-TSTA, however we recommend some pre-treatment steps be carried out before testing.

We recommend samples are freeze dried and milled to pass a 0.5mm screen as dry heating is used to produce modified starches which are more resistant or unsusceptible to enzyme hydrolysis.

Lipids and chlorophyll should then be extracted using acetone and then ether in the fume hood. After airdrying the organic solvents you should be ale to follow K-TSTA procedure.

Please record loss on drying and extraction so you will be able to correct the final starch content for moisture and fat removed.
